The James Wood Colonels's 16-8 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 51-29 walloping at the hands of Clarke County on Saturday. While losing is never fun, James Wood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 178th, while Clarke County is ranked 34th).
James Wood's loss came despite strong showings from Brooklynn Medina and Nayah Edwards. Medina scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Edwards scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Medina is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Nail, who scored four points.
James Wood has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Clarke County, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. James Wood will be home for the holidays to greet Millbrook at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Clarke County will be home for the holidays to greet Central Woodstock at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Woodstock is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
