Volleyball Recap: Chandler Cumbie Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Dorchester Academy

If Dorchester Academy wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played St. John's Christian Academy, they should've done a better job of containing Kylie Finley. The Cavaliers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Raiders on Thursday, sneaking past 3-2 thanks in part to Finley, who had eight kills, seven digs, and five blocks. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played.

St. John's Christian Academy was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The final score came out to 25-15, 22-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12.

St. John's Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chandler Cumbie led the charge by getting 11 kills and four digs. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily McKnight, who had four digs, four blocks, and three aces.

St. John's Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Dorchester Academy, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

St. John's Christian Academy has already played their next match (against Williamsburg Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Dorchester Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Charleston Collegiate on the 20th.
