III Section III recap Oct. 9, 2012
Agua Fria's Marquice Paige rumbled for the longest rushing play in III Section III this season in his game against Sierra Linda last week. Paige's team topped the Bulldogs as he sprinted for 96 yards on the play and finished with 138 in all.
Desert Edge extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Shadow Ridge, 38-17. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Scorpions.
Kani Benoit was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 220 yards on 22 carries as Thunderbird beat Hayden. Teammate Carter Hoffman added to the ground attack by rushing for 34 yards.
Turner was the best wideout in III Section III this week as the Chiefs beat the Falcons. Turner racked up four receptions for 150 yards. John Raynak helped Thunderbird's passing attack out by catching one ball for 33 yards.
Luke Rubenzer threw for 188 yards and four touchdowns. He was four-four with zero interceptions.
6-foot-4 quarterback Ryan Finley of Paradise Valley is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2084. He has also thrown 22 touchdowns. On the ground, Thunderbird's Benoit has rushed for 1280 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Elijah Marks. The Desert Edge star has 27 catches for 635 yards.
Kyle Woolard of the Desert Edge is only 65 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Woolard has rushed for 935 yards on 99 carries so far this year.
Tempe's Emanuel Gant is within 174 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Arcadia. So far this year, Gant has thrown for 1826 yards with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Buffaloes take on the Titans. Tempe is in second place, while Arcadia is in eighth place.
