Mackinac Island fell 43-36 to Mackinaw City on Monday. While losing is never fun, Mackinac Island can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 471st, while Mackinaw City is ranked 170th).
Mackinac Island lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lakelyn Bunker, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds. Bunker has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. Kaylee Cowell was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Mackinac Island's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Mackinaw City, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mackinac Island will take on Mid Peninsula at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mackinaw City, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Rudyard at 5:30 p.m. on February 7th. Mackinaw City is facing Rudyard at the right time seeing as Rudyard is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
