The Lovett Lions pushed their score all the way to 63 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Midtown by a score of 66-63. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Lovett came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 167th, while Midtown is ranked 415th).
Despite the defeat, Lovett saw an underclassman step up: Kingston Whitty scored 21 points along with five rebounds. The contest was Whitty's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ryan Cain, who scored nine points.
Lovett bumped their record down to 5-5 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Midtown, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lovett won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against North Hall at 4:00 p.m. on December 16th. One thing working in North Hall's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches. Midtown won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Wesleyan at 3:30 p.m. on December 16th.
