The West Prairie Cyclones's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their eighth straight loss. They took a 49-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Havana. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for West Prairie in their matchups with Havana: they've now lost eight in a row.
Despite the defeat, West Prairie saw an underclassman step up: Braden Coplan scored 24 points. That was a full 55.8% of West Prairie's points, marking the 12th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Matt Whitman was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
West Prairie dropped their record down to 3-23 with that defeat, which was their 24th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Havana, their victory bumped their record up to 7-18.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Prairie will face off against Mendon Unity at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Mendon Unity's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches. As for Havana, they and Beardstown will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Havana will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 656th, while Beardstown is ranked 296th).
