New Caney is 5-0 against Caney Creek since September of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The New Caney Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Caney Creek Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, New Caney came up short against College Park and fell 34-27.
The losing side was boosted by Hunter Taylor, who rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Taylor was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 56 yards. Another player making a difference was David Stewart, who rushed for 118 yards.
Meanwhile, Caney Creek's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 56-0 defeat at the hands of Oak Ridge. While losing is never fun, Caney Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 597th, while Oak Ridge is ranked 179th).
New Caney now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Caney Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
Everything went New Caney's way against Caney Creek in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as New Caney made off with a 41-21 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Caney since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
