Softball Recap: Perry Wins Going Away Against South

Perry hadn't done well against South recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Pirates blew past the Rebels 9-1. Considering the Pirates have won nine matchups by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Sophie Sivon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Arianna Rogers, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Morgan Winters, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Perry pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for South, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.

Looking ahead, Perry is taking a road trip to take on Hawken at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.22 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for South, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Mentor at 5:00 p.m.
