Given University City's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while Rancho Bernardo is ranked 857th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
University City got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dylan Griffin out in front who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and five steals. The matchup was Griffin's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Luca Anzaldua bertholdo was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds.
University City has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Rancho Bernardo, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
University City will be home for the holidays to greet Westview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westview is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Rancho Bernardo will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Trabuco Hills at 12:30 p.m. on December 27th. One thing working in Trabuco Hills' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight contests.
