On Monday, Riverdale Baptist didn't have too much trouble with Cardinal Newman at home as they won 55-40. Given Riverdale Baptist's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 33rd in Maryland, while Cardinal Newman is ranked 134th in South Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jackson Furman, who scored 19 points. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Giovonni Sanford was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Cardinal Newman lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Amarii King, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Manny Davis , who scored eight points.
The win makes it two in a row for Riverdale Baptist and bumps their season record up to 8-5. As for Cardinal Newman, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
Riverdale Baptist won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Rock Creek Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th. Cardinal Newman's road trip will continue as they head out to face Hillcrest at 2:30 p.m. on December 28th.
