The Leesburg Yellow Jackets will venture away from home to face off against the Windermere Prep Lakers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Leesburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.3 runs per game this season.
Last Monday, Leesburg didn't have quite enough to beat Umatilla and fell 8-7. The Yellow Jackets haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Rachel Chiles was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Chiles was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Hailey Toothaker made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Sophia Ross was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Windermere Prep had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 12-2 victory. 12 seems to be a good number for the Lakers as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Like Leesburg, Windermere Prep also got a great game from a two-way player: Carsha Campbell. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave Campbell a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Windermere Prep let Rayah Mousli and Cierra Walker run wild. Mousli scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Walker went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Those two runs gave Mousli a new career-high.
Windermere Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Poinciana only posted an OBP of .318.
Windermere Prep's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Leesburg, their loss dropped their record down to 13-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Leesburg has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Windermere Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
