Hempfield Area and Plum are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Spartans will square off against the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Hempfield Area sitting on three straight victories and Plum on ten.
Plum's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: Hempfield Area hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Spartans put the hurt on Woodland Hills with a sharp 12-0 win on Wednesday.
Jacob Jasiewicz was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Anthony More also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Hempfield Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Plum won against Greater Latrobe on Monday with three runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Mustangs didn't even let the Wildcats on the board, marking the Mustangs' second-straight 3-0 shutout.
The result came thanks to Michael Tedrick's shutout, as he gave up just a hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Daniel Macioce, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Jake Dombkowski was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Plum pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hempfield Area, their record is now 8-11.
Hempfield Area couldn't quite get it done against Plum in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 10-6. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
