The Chipley Tigers will face off against the Holmes County Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chipley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
Chipley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top against Ponce De Leon by a score of 7-2. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Lauren Waits was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kenzlee Nelson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Olivia Brown was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Holmes County made easy work of Bethlehem on Tuesday and carried off a 16-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won ten matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Kiersten Womble was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlie Whitfield, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Holmes County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Holmes County has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Chipley, their victory bumped their record up to 15-6.
Chipley's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Holmes County, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Chipley continue to outrun the ball?
Chipley suffered a grim 15-2 defeat to Holmes County when the teams last played back in March of 2022. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
