Football Recap: Apex Friendship Piles Up the Points Against Green Level

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Apex Friendship). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Green Level Gators 49-14. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Gators are ranked 215th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Apex Friendship got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ethan McGarrigan out in front who threw for 308 yards and four TDs on only 19 passes. Those 308 passing yards gave McGarrigan a new career-high. Apex Friendship also got a significant boost from Michael Mallard, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 107 yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Apex Friendship proved: they limited Green Level to a paltry two yards per carry. The Patriots' run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.3 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 3.83 on average over their last three games.

Apex Friendship didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Noah Evenson and Tyler Goebbel.

The victory made it two in a row for Apex Friendship and bumps their season record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-6 Green Level and 1-6 Apex. As for Green Level, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.
