2A Flatirons recap Sept. 26, 2012
Bishop Machebeuf was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to second in 2A Flatirons. Earlier in the week, the Buffaloes defeated Manual 20-14.
Middle Park moved up to 74 from 107 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Panthers were able to make the jump by beating the Panthers 27-6.
Middle Park's dynamic duo of John Stensvad and Henry Southway proved tough for Kent Denver to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Stensvad threw for 76 yards and one touchdown and Southway had 49 yards receiving. Ben Eaton helped Middle Park's passing attack out by catching two balls for 27 yards.
Josh Mihalcin made the biggest impact on defense this week as Faith Christian bested Skyview. The 5-foot-10 junior racked up one sack.
Ty Overturf was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 153 yards on 28 carries as Bishop Machebeuf lost to the Sun Devils. Donavan Clinkscales also contributed to the rushing game with 31 yards on the ground.
The Pinnacle's Hector Venegas and Chris Genovez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A Flatirons in both passing and receiving yards. Venegas has thrown for 470 yards this season, while Genovez, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 12 catches for 209 yards. Southway from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 463 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Kevin Mcginty's team takes on KIPP Denver Collegiate. At the moment, the Buffaloes are in second, while KIPP Denver Collegiate is in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Eagles take on Middle Park. Faith Christian has allowed 54 points this season, while the Panthers have given up 61. Blair Hubbard's team allowed 0 points last week as it topped the Wolverines.
There should be lots of points scored when the Eagles and Middle Park face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Faith Christian comes in having scored 108 this season, while the Panthers have scored 127. The Eagles scored 30 points last week as they defeated Skyview.
Bishop Machebeuf and the Thunderbolts played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Bishop Machebeuf eventually emerging with a 20-14 victory. Overturf in the win.
