The Toll Gate Titans will head out to square off against the St. Raphael Academy Saints at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Toll Gate took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against East Greenwich, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Titans had just enough and edged out the Avengers 7-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Titans.
Delaney Wilson made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Wilson was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Liv Cota was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Abbi O'Connor, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Toll Gate kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, St. Raphael Academy put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Johnston a 3-0 shutout.
Like Toll Gate, St. Raphael Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Isabella Sousa. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Sousa was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and two runs.
Sousa wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Noelle Welch, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
St. Raphael Academy's record is now 3-0. As for Toll Gate, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Toll Gate hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like St. Raphael Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Toll Gate might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from St. Raphael Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2019. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
