Baseball Recap: Covington's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

Covington took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Riverton Parke, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Trojans had just enough and edged out the Panthers 9-8 on Saturday. This was a revenge game for the Trojans: when they faced off against the Panthers on Saturday, they had to take a 10-3 loss.

Kyven Hill was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Covington's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't). Hill was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cian Moore, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Covington is undefeated when Moore posts two or more stolen bases, but 7-8 otherwise.

Covington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

With the win, Covington broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-8. As for Riverton Parke, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Covington will square off against Terre Haute South Vigo at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Braves will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Riverton Parke, they will challenge Parke Heritage at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolves have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
