The St. Ignatius Wildcats will take on the University School Preppers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (St. Ignatius 3.1, University School 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
St. Ignatius is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Ohio's top teams: Mentor, who was ranked 23rd at the time (St. Ignatius was ranked 11th). The Wildcats came out on top against the Cardinals by a score of 5-2 on Friday. The win was familiar territory for the Wildcats, who have now won four games in a row.

St. Ignatius got a great performance from Patrick Cousineau as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. What's more, Cousineau posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jacob Merheb, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jackson Boyer, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, University School has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging three runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They fell just short of Grove City by a score of 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Preppers have suffered since April 27, 2024.
Jack Nelson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Deacon Nelson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
This is the second loss in a row for University School and nudges their season record down to 21-5. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for St. Ignatius, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.
St. Ignatius took their win against University School when the teams last played back in April of 2021 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Preppers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
