The Beaumont Cougars struggled with assists on Thursday (the Mater Dei Monarchs had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Beaumont was dealt a 92-46 loss at the hands of Mater Dei. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Beaumont has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Beaumont still got an impressive performance from Payton Joseph, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Joseph has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Vince tracy Capuras, who scored nine points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mater Dei to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brannon Martinsen, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Benjamin, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Beaumont's loss dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Mater Dei, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.
Beaumont won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hoover at 8:00 p.m. on December 29th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Hoover is ranked 127th, while Beaumont is ranked 110th). Mater Dei is on the road again on Friday and play against Indian Hill at 2:00 p.m. on December 29th.
