Softball Recap: Whitehall Takes a Loss

Whitehall dropped their record down to 7-6 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 12-2 to the Fremont Packers. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Packers earlier this season, when they won 9-8.

Whitehall saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Janie Fagan, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

As for Fremont, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5-1 record this season. Considering they have won nine games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Fremont's side, Kam Clark was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Clark has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Fremont let Riley Derks and Maddie Baden run wild. Derks went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Baden went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits Derks has posted since back in April. Gracie Clark was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whitehall will head out to square off against Spring Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Lakers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.5 runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fremont, they will head out on the road to face off against Hart at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
