Even though the Branford Buccaneers have not done well against the Lafayette Hornets recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, Branford made off with a 48-47 victory over Lafayette. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Branford.
Lafayette's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amarie Fleming, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Fleming is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. Trevor Mares was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Branford's win bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Lafayette, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5.
Branford will head out on the road to take on Bronson at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lafayette won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Dixie County at 8:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
