The St. Raphael Academy Saints will challenge the Toll Gate Titans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Raphael Academy will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
St. Raphael Academy's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They came out on top against Johnston by a score of 3-0.
Isabella Sousa made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Sousa was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and two runs.
Sousa wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Noelle Welch, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Toll Gate faced East Greenwich in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Titans narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Avengers 7-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Titans.
Like St. Raphael Academy, Toll Gate also got a great game from a two-way player: Delaney Wilson. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Wilson was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liv Cota, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Abbi O'Connor was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Toll Gate kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Toll Gate now has a winning record of 5-4. As for St. Raphael Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Raphael Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Toll Gate struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Raphael Academy took their win against Toll Gate when the teams last played back in May of 2019 by a conclusive 9-0 score. Will the Saints repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
