Two dominant signal callers in Tyson Buckley and Sebastian Lopez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Camp Verde Cowboys will be playing at home against the Bisbee Pumas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Camp Verde's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
Camp Verde stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They breezed by Highland Prep on the road to the tune of 68-24.
Camp Verde got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Buckley out in front who threw for 299 yards and four touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Buckley hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Sanabria, who picked up 97 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Bisbee started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Tombstone. The contest between the pair wasn't particularly close, with the Pumas falling 36-20. It was the first time this season that they let down their fans at home.
Despite their loss, Bisbee saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Bryceton Meyer, who rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, and also picked up 31 receiving yards, was perhaps the best of all. Meyer's longest rush was for an incredible 84 yards. Lopez was another key contributor, throwing for 184 yards and two touchdowns.
Camp Verde's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.4 points per game. As for Bisbee, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as Camp Verde and Bisbee have no problem gaining yardage. Camp Verde has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 405.8 total yards per game. However, it's not like Bisbee struggles in that department as they've been even better at 435.9 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
