Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Devrin Weathers of
Webb City is the 2020 MaxPreps Missouri High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound senior running back ran for 1,782 yards and 28 touchdowns to lead the Cardinals to an 11-2 record and the Class 5 state semifinals.
Weathers was a model of consistency, rushing for at least 100 yards in all but
two games and averaging nearly 10 yards (9.7) per carry.
In addition to his duties in the backfield, Weathers was dangerous as a returner, helping him top 2,000 all-purpose yards. Factoring in receptions as well as kick and punt returns, he averaged 10.7 yards every time he touched the ball.
Weathers, who tallied over 4,500 career rushing yards and 59 touchdowns, signed with Kansas State in December. He also participated in baseball, basketball and track during his high school career at Webb City.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released Jan. 29.

Dervin Weathers rushed for 28 touchdowns as a senior and is headed to Kansas State.
