Sun Valley and the Warriors are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2019, but not for long. The Sun Valley Spartans will be playing at home against the Weddington Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Sun Valley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell just short of Cuthbertson by a score of 59-56.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Tyra Robinson, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and two steals. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Zoe Bradley was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Sun Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cuthbertson only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, Weddington was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 66-61 to the Pirates. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Wednesday (55), Weddington still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Weddington saw an underclassman step up: Caroline Clark went 8 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Clark has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Bailey Page, who scored 17 points.
Sun Valley dropped their record down to 10-10 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Weddington, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-8.
Sun Valley came up short against the Warriors in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 52-46. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Page, who scored 26 points. Now that Sun Valley knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
