The Davies Career & Tech Patriots will head out on the road to square off against the North Providence Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Davies Career & Tech has four straight victories, North Providence has 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, Davies Career & Tech got the win against Classical by a conclusive 16-4. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won nine matches by 12 runs or more so far this season.
Madison Blanchette and Darelyn Maldonado did most of the damage at the plate: Blanchette went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple, while Maldonado went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Gisele Roy, who went 1-for-2 with three runs and two RBI.
Davies Career & Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .560 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, North Providence lost 21-1 to Scituate on Wednesday.
North Providence saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makenna Heon, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Heon is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
Davies Career & Tech's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for North Providence, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13.
North Providence's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Davies Career & Tech has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for North Providence, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 strikeouts. Will Davies Career & Tech keep running through batters, or will the Cougars buck the trend?
Davies Career & Tech might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from North Providence when the teams last played back in April of 2019. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
