The Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineers are taking a road trip to take on the Westmont Hilltop Hilltoppers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Philipsburg-Osceola 3.3, Westmont Hilltop 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Philipsburg-Osceola was handed a seven-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They skirted past Tyrone 3-1. The Mountaineers haven't had any issues with the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Alivia Bizzarri made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emily Gustkey, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Westmont Hilltop, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Bedford 4-2.
Like Philipsburg-Osceola, Westmont Hilltop also got a great game from a two-way player: Addy Dunbar. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Dunbar was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Dunbar wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kelsie Muto, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
Westmont Hilltop has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Philipsburg-Osceola, their record now sits at 9-5.
Westmont Hilltop's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Philipsburg-Osceola has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Westmont Hilltop, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Philipsburg-Osceola keep running through batters, or will the Hilltoppers buck the trend?
Philipsburg-Osceola beat Westmont Hilltop 9-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mountaineers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
