After flying high against the Edison Tech Inventors last Saturday, the Utica Academy of Science Atoms came back down to earth. Utica Academy of Science suffered a rough 64-40 loss at the hands of Marcellus on Sunday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Utica Academy of Science has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Utica Academy of Science still got an impressive performance from Akol Machteng, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Machteng has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamir Bowles, who scored eight points.
Utica Academy of Science struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Marcellus racked up 16 assists.
It was another big night for Will Burnett, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds for Marcellus. Tucker Burnett was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with nine assists and seven rebounds.
Utica Academy of Science's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Marcellus, their win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1.
Utica Academy of Science won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Bishop Grimes at 2:00 p.m. on January 15th. Bishop Grimes presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Utica Academy of Science in New York (Bishop Grimes is ranked 145th, while Utica Academy of Science is ranked 465th).
