Bishop McNamara barely beat Newman Central Catholic the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Fightin' Irish blew past the Comets 18-2 on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Fightin' Irish sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.

Preston Payne was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Payne was also solid in the batter's box, earning two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Fuerst, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jacob Lotz was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Bishop McNamara was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newman Central Catholic only posted a batting average of .188.

Bishop McNamara's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Newman Central Catholic, they moved to 22-4-1 with that defeat, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

Bishop McNamara and Newman Central Catholic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Fightin' Irish will challenge Harvest Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (88 vs. 306). Meanwhile, Newman Central Catholic (ranked 106th) will meet Amboy (ranked 418th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
