Big VIII recap September 17, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Joseph Muriel and Anthony Spencer connected against Murrieta Valley. The connection was good for 60 yards, the longest such play in Big VIII this season.
King scaled the state rankings by moving to 211 from 263 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wolves were able to make move up by beating La Sierra 27-0.
Santiago's dynamic duo of Blake Barnett and Jordan Huffman proved to be unstoppable against Elsinore, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Barnett threw for 298 yards and 4 touchdowns and Huffman had 115 yards receiving. Brad Duran helped Santiago's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 88 yards.
The Sharks' dynamic duo of Barnett and Huffman proved tough for the Tigers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Huffman was the best wideout in the league this week as Santiago topped Elsinore.
Barnett put up the best numbers through the air as Jeff Steinberg's team bested Tony Peralta's team.
Cory Young was the best running back in Big VIII this week. He ran for 191 yards on 33 carries as Norco beat the Tigers. Teammate Victor Viramontes added to the ground attack by rushing for 40 yards.
He was 23-34 with 1 interceptions.
Muriel was a passing and rushing force as Roosevelt lost to the Nighthawks. He completed 15 passes for 297 yards and 4 touchdowns and also ran for 18 yards. Muriel's key target this week was Praise Obiezu, who caught 4 passes for 94 yards.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Huffman. The Santiago star has 20 catches for 301 yards.
Corona fell to Canyon 47-17 last week, the largest margin of any game. Anthony Romero was a bright spot for the Panthers, as he in the loss.
