The Middletown Middies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 51-25 walloping at the hands of Lakota East. While losing is never fun, Middletown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 396th, while Lakota East is ranked 68th).
Lakota East's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emma Fohl led the charge by scoring ten points along with six assists and five rebounds. Fohl is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Katlyn Pham, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Middletown has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Lakota East, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Middletown will face off against Mason at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mason knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully Middletown likes a good challenge. As for Lakota East, they will head out on the road to take on Oak Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Oak Hills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Wednesday.
