False River has gone a perfect 3-0 against Family Christian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The False River Gators will head out to face off against the Family Christian Flames at 2:00 p.m. False River is looking for their season's first victory.
False River came up short against Liberty Magnet on Friday, falling 15-7.
Travis Fields and Cruz Pourciau did some serious damage despite the final result: Fields scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Pourciau went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. The dominant performance gave Pourciau a new career-high in doubles. Another player making a difference was Matthew Gradfeo, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Even though they lost, False River always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Family Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 20-1 margin over Broadmoor on Thursday. The Flames might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by ten runs or more this season.
Ethan McDowell looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Family Christian got a massive performance out of Parker Ruckman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Ruckman is becoming a predictor of Family Christian's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't). James White also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Family Christian pushed their record up to 9-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 14.2 runs. As for False River, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-14-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. False River has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Family Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
False River came out on top in a nail-biter against Family Christian when the teams last played back in March of 2023, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for False River since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
