The Florence Huskies had to endure a five-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They enjoyed a cozy 69-54 win over Rye on Tuesday. Florence's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Florence got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Garrett Royer out in front who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The game was Royer's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Gage Goodall was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Rye saw an underclassman step up: Eli Guzman scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Brendan Gray, who scored 13 points.
Florence's victory bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Rye, their loss dropped their record down to 4-1.
Florence has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Dolores Huerta Prep at 2:00 p.m. on December 14th. Hopefully Dolores Huerta Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Thursday. As for Rye, they will head out on the road to face off against Del Norte at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Del Norte will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while Rye is ranked 118th).
