Basketball Recap: Poudre Takes a Loss

Poudre extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-4. They came up short against the Mead Mavericks, falling 58-35. On the bright side, the 35- point performance marked the Impalas' highest-scoring game to date.

When it comes to explaining why Poudre lost, don't look at Maggie Foster. Despite the final result, she posted seven points and five boards.

As for Mead, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Given their advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Poudre is ranked 127th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Elena Gomez was nothing short of spectacular: she shot 69% from the field on her way to 25 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 16.7 points per game. Another player making a difference was Madi Clark, who had 11 points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Poudre has already played their next contest, a 45-42 loss against Lutheran on the 11th. As for Mead, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 56-41 victory against Fort Collins on the 16th.
