The Streator Bulldogs had to endure a 26-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Earlville on Saturday and snuck past 30-28. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Streator has managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Streator to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ava Gwaltney, who scored 14 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Gwaltney has scored at least 25% of Streator's points. Another player making a difference was Mina James, who scored four points along with six rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Earlville lost, one person who can't be blamed is Madyson Olson. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with six steals and five rebounds. The game was Olson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Ryleigh Dixon was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Streator's victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-19. As for Earlville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Streator will face off against Wilmington at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Wilmington is on a three-game streak of home losses, Streator a 20-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. As for Earlville, they will head out on the road to face off against Newark at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
