After a 15-0 state championship season, the South Pointe Stallion football team were recognized for finishing 3rd in the nation by MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard. Charlie Thompson of MaxPreps presided over the ceremony during half-time of the South Pointe boys basketball game. SGT Jack Owens, of the South Carolina Army National Guard, said some kind words about the Stallions team and presented the trophy to athletic director, Mike Drummond. Mike thanked MaxPreps and the fans and presented the team with the trophy. The football team, decked out in their Tour of Champions t-shirts, showed their excitement by holding the trophy high over their heads and doing their team chant. The crowd loved it!
The regular National Guardsman at South Pointe, George Cast, was not able to be there so Jack did a wonderful job in making the presentation. He manned a table in the lobby with giveaway items, while talking and visiting with fans and students. The coaches and players loved the Tour of Champions t-shirts, and wore them proudly the rest of the evening.
