On Thursday, the Bishop Manogue Miners faced the Fernley Vaqueros in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Bishop Manogue took a 52-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fernley.
Bishop Manogue's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Fa'anaetaua Puloka, who scored 10 points. Another player making a difference was Mata Peaua, who scored 8 points.
Fernley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaelece Wasson out in front who scored 21 points along with 4 steals. The matchup was Wasson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiserita Otuafi, who scored 12 points along with 5 steals.
Bishop Manogue's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Fernley, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Bishop Manogue will head out on the road to face off against Lowry at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Lowry is ranked 11th, while Bishop Manogue is ranked sixth). Fernley is on the road again on Friday and play against Faith Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on December 1st. Faith Lutheran is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54 points per game.
