Basketball Recap: Stanton Piles Up the Points Against Winside

A well-balanced attack led Stanton over Winside in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Stanton Mustangs blew the Winside Wildcats out of the water with a 62-30 final score. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Mustangs had established a 24 point advantage.

Stanton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Barrett Wilke out in front who posted 11 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. Those eight assists gave Wilke a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Logan Tiedtke, who scored 14 points and six boards.

Stanton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Winside still got an impressive performance from Caleb Offner, who went 6-for-12 on his way to 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks. Offner has been hot recently, having posted three or more blocks the last three times he's played. Noah Pace also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Stanton's record is now 3-17. As for Winside, they are on a 16-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-19.

Stanton has already played their next contest, a 62-51 defeat against Clarkson/Leigh on the 13th. As for Winside, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 69-63 loss against Ainsworth on the 14th.
