Torres saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mylah Avila, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Avila is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played. J'lynn Mitchell was another, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.
Hoover came out on top against Roosevelt two weeks ago thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run first inning. The Patriots blew past the Rough Riders 13-1. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Hazel Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Martinez was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Layla Jimenez was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Del Rio, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Hoover lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
The win was the third in a row for Hoover, bringing their record up to 7-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Torres, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
Everything went Torres' way against Hoover when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Torres made off with a 12-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Toros since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
