Murphysboro is 9-1 against Herrin since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Red Devils will welcome the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Herrin took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Murphysboro, who comes in off a win.
Murphysboro was handed a six-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Massac County. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Devils have posted against the Patriots since April 4, 2022.
Arianna Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Macey Alexander was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Landrie Green also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Murphysboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Herrin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 12-0 to Carterville.
Herrin's defeat dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Murphysboro, their victory bumped their record up to 8-11.
Herrin's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Murphysboro has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Herrin, though, as they've been averaging only 2.7 strikeouts. Will Murphysboro keep running through batters, or will the Tigers buck the trend?
Murphysboro skirted past Herrin 7-5 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
