Wheeler has gone 8-2 against Hammond Bishop Noll recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Bearcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Wheeler is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Griffith hit Wheeler with a four-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bearcats took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. Bearcats fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Panthers since on Tuesday.
Cadence Piunti was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and seven unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Piunti was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Rileyann Welch and Nora Howell stepped up to the plate in a big way. Welch went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while Howell went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double. Ashlynne Trinidad also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Hammond Bishop Noll never let their opponents score on Monday. They blew past River Forest 14-0. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 14 runs or more this season.
Not much got past Molly Whelan, who gave up just two hits to keep River Forest off the board. Whelan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Caitlyn Walker, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. Aiyanna (Yani) Espinosa was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two doubles.
Wheeler's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Hammond Bishop Noll, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Wheeler has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Hammond Bishop Noll struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Wheeler's way against Hammond Bishop Noll in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Wheeler made off with a 7-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bearcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
