The Athens Drive Jaguars will head out to challenge the Jordan Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Athens Drive has given up an average of 13.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Athens Drive blew Riverside-Durham out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Monday Riverside-Durham got their revenge. Athens Drive fell just short of Riverside-Durham by a score of 17-15. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Jaguars have suffered since March 21, 2024.
Ayla Cole was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Delaney Mize, who scored four runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Athens Drive kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Jordan waltzed into their matchup on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Pride by a score of 8-3.
Kylie Specht was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Jacqueline (JJ) Thornburg was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
This is the second loss in a row for Athens Drive and nudges their season record down to 1-6. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Jordan, their record is now 5-1.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Athens Drive has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Jordan struggles in that department as they've averaged .510. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Athens Drive might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Jordan when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Can Athens Drive avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
