Hesperia is 2-8 against Apple Valley since March of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Scorpions will host the Sun Devils at 3:15 p.m. Hesperia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Hesperia earned a 9-4 victory over Notre Dame. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Scorpions.
Cameron Cole made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cole was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. He also put up two doubles, which were his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Castillo, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Hunter Mayer, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Hesperia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Apple Valley). Everything went their way against Serrano on Thursday as they made off with a 23-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Sun Devils in their matchups with the Diamondbacks: they've now won eight in a row.
Like Hesperia, Apple Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Beau Lloyd. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Lloyd was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in February.
In other batting news, Isaiah Reveron was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethyn Doyle, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Apple Valley's win bumped their record up to 15-5. As for Hesperia, their victory bumped their record up to 12-7.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Hesperia has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Apple Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hesperia skirted past Apple Valley 7-5 in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Scorpions repeat their success, or do the Sun Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
