Even though the Richmond Red Devils have not done well against the Marion Giants recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Richmond blew past Marion 82-62. Richmond's victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Leading Richmond to victory were Mason Carpenter and Cedric Horton. Carpenter scored 23 points, while Horton scored 29 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Horton has scored at least 25% of Richmond's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryder Cate, who scored 10 points.
Several Giants players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaymen Townsend, who scored 15 points. The game was Townsend's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Amar Rogers, who scored 12 points.
Richmond's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Marion, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richmond won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Talawanda at 7:30 p.m. on December 9th. Talawanda comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Marion, they will head out on the road to face off against Wabash at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Wabash focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday.
