The John Jay Wolves can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They walked away with a 28-17 victory over Clarkstown North. Given John Jay's advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 157th, while Clarkstown North is ranked 315th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tommy Machado went supernova for John Jay, rushing for 116 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 187 yards and a touchdown. Luca Duva got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Despite the loss, Clarkstown North still got an impressive performance from Aidan Pompei, who rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries, and also picked up 83 receiving yards and a touchdown. Pompei was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 61 yards.
John Jay's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Clarkstown North, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. John Jay will take on Greeley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Greeley comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Clarkstown North, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Brewster at 5:00 p.m. Brewster is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
