The Castle Knights will square off against the Mt. Vernon Marauders at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Castle made easy work of Evansville Central and carried off a 3-0 win.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Castle took every set by at least 10 points. Once all was said and done, the final set scores wound up at 25-15, 25-6, 25-15.
Castle relied on the efforts of Hera Sun, who had 16 assists, nine digs, and three aces, and Jaycee Springer, who had 12 digs and three aces. The team also got some help from Paige Furbee, who had 13 kills, three digs, and a solo block.
Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon snuck past Muncie Burris with a 3-2 victory on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Marauders.
Mt. Vernon had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final set scores came out to 22-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-13.
Mt. Vernon found their leader in sophomore Sophia Rahmany, who had 40 assists and 21 digs. Vizma Erkmanis was another key player, getting 17 digs and 16 kills.
Mt. Vernon has now won six of their last seven games at home. That gives them a 10-6 record this season. As for Castle, they are now 9-6, having gone 1-2 since their five-game winning streak ended.
