Eldorado is 0-10 against Basic since April of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Firehawks will face off against the Wolves at 3:30 p.m. Basic took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Eldorado, who comes in off a win.
Eldorado will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Sunrise Mountain on Friday. The Firehawks blew past the Miners 16-5. With that win, the Firehawks brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Rachel Figueroa was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaliyah Guillory, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Brianna Orozco, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Eldorado hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Basic faced Liberty in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Wolves fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 10-9. The loss continues a trend for the Wolves in their meetings with the Patriots: they've now lost four in a row.
Mercedes Escarcega was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Mia Frias was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Eldorado's victory ended an eight-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-14. As for Basic, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Eldorado hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Basic struggles in that department as they've averaged .363. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Eldorado might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from Basic in their previous matchup on April 9th. Can the Firehawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
