5A Continental recap Nov. 7, 2012
ThunderRidge extended the longest winning streak in 5A Continental this week by beating Westminster, 63-34. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Grizzlies.
Chaparral took down Rock Canyon 43-3 last week, the largest margin of any game. Max Kuhns threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns and ran for nine yards in the win.
Jalen Kittrell was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 149 yards on 25 carries as Highlands Ranch beat the Wolves. Mike Mira also contributed to the rushing game with 27 yards on the ground.
Hand was the best wideout in the league this week as Joe Johnson's team bested Westminster. Hand racked up four receptions for 113 yards. Bucky Mallory helped ThunderRidge's passing attack out by catching two balls for 43 yards.
Ricky Ariatti made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Falcons fell to Legend. The 6-foot-3 defensive end racked up one sack.
The Wolverines' Kuhns and Mitchell Parsons have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Continental in both passing and receiving yards. Kuhns has thrown for 2401 yards this season, while Parsons, a 6-foot-5 receiver, has 45 catches for 754 yards. Trey Smith from Douglas County leads the league in rushing with 1732 yards.
Chaparral's Zac Guy needs only 30 yards against Eaglecrest next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Guy has rushed for 970 yards on 136 carries so far this year.
Regis Jesuit and Gateway played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Regis Jesuit eventually emerging with a 15-14 victory.
