The Centennial Eagles won against the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs last Wednesday with 63 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Monday. Centennial slipped by the Chiefs 63-62. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Centennial was led to victory by Felix Buroz and Louis Llinas. Buroz scored 19 points along with two blocks, while Llinas scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks. It was the first time this season that Buroz posted two or more blocks. Jayson Smith was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six assists and three steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Centennial and bumps their season record up to 16-7. As for Cardinal Gibbons, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 17-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Centennial won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Heritage knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully the Eagles likes a good challenge. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they will be playing at home against the Hurricanes at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Florida (Northeast is ranked 65th, while the Chiefs are ranked 54th).
