They will be home for the holidays to greet the Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully St. Marys is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Wheeling Central Catholic in West Virginia (St. Marys is ranked seventh, while Wheeling Central Catholic is ranked 68th).
St. Marys fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Williamstown on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Yellowjackets by a score of 51-48. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points St. Marys has scored all season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Addie "r" Davis, who scored 13 points along with three steals. She scored a full 27.1% of St. Marys' points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiera Martin, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wheeling Central Catholic put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 82-27 win over Shadyside. The result was nothing new for Wheeling Central Catholic, who have now won three matches by 32 points or more so far this season.
Wheeling Central Catholic's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Brook Edge, who scored 20 points along with six assists and four steals, and Kaitlyn Blake, who scored 29 points along with nine rebounds. The contest was Blake's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Haley Severns, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and six assists.
St. Marys' defeat dropped their record down to 4-1. As for Wheeling Central Catholic, their win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0.
Monday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: St. Marys have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 42% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Wheeling Central Catholic struggles in that department as they've nailed 50.3% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
